APC Fires Warning At Makinde: You’ll Cough Out Public Funds Spent On 2027 Ambition
The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said Governor Seyi Makinde would be required to account for public funds allegedly spent in pursuit of his presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 ge
The party made the position known in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, where it also criticised Makinde’s decision to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the Allied People’s Movement (APM).
According to the APC, Makinde lacks the personal qualities, experience and political strategy required to become Nigeria’s president in 2027, describing his presidential ambition as a political charade.
The party further alleged that the governor was using state resources to pursue his presidential ambition and warned that he would be made to account for any public funds allegedly spent on the political project.
The APC said Makinde was aware of the complexity of contesting for the nation’s highest political office but had nevertheless chosen to present himself as the presidential candidate of the APM.
The party added that it was monitoring his political activities and described his reported presidential bid as an effort it believed was unlikely to succeed.
Meanwhile, former Oyo State Commissioner for Justice and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Adebayo Mutalubi Ojo, has predicted that some politicians currently supporting Makinde could eventually withdraw their backing as the 2027 elections draw closer.
Speaking on OpenForum360, a political podcast in Ibadan, Ojo said some of the governor’s current supporters might only be waiting for the appropriate time to distance themselves from him and oppose his preferred successor in Oyo State, Bimbo Adekanmbi.
The former commissioner said the political situation in Oyo State would become clearer by December 2026, suggesting that some politicians who currently appear loyal to Makinde could change their positions as the election approaches.
