APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, has suggested that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should consider rebranding and registering as a new political party if it believes it is no longer strong enough to compete effectively.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Basiru made this remark in Osogbo while receiving a group of PDP defectors into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He also dismissed fears that Nigeria is becoming a one-party state, following the increasing defections into the ruling APC. According to him, Nigeria’s constitution guarantees a multi-party democracy.

“It’s constitutionally impossible for Nigeria to become a one-party state. Section 221 of the Constitution upholds political pluralism and mandates that elections must be contested through registered political parties,” Basiru stated in a video clip from the event shared on Friday.

He added, “If the PDP feels too weakened and structurally incapable of remaining competitive, then perhaps it should re-register under a new identity. For us in the APC, our focus remains on building a strong, people-oriented party that resonates with Nigerians.”

The former Osun State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice called on APC leaders to prioritize internal cohesion and grassroots engagement ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship poll and the 2027 general elections, especially to secure a second term for President Bola Tinubu.

Commenting on the Tinubu administration, Basiru praised the president for what he described as bold leadership that has set Nigeria on the path to economic transformation, attracting commendation from international financial institutions and rating agencies.

However, he criticized the PDP-led Osun State Government for underperformance, particularly in vital sectors such as education, healthcare, and agriculture.

“We must take back Osun from a leadership that has clearly failed its people in key areas. The citizens deserve better,” he concluded.
