Governor Abiodun made the call during a Special Church Service held to mark the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta.
He urged the citizens to ensure the legacies of fallen heroes live on, emphasizing their sacrifices for the territorial integrity of the country.
“Today, let us honor their memory not only with ceremonies but through actions. Let us build a Nigeria where unity outweighs division, where peace silences conflicts, and where the sacrifices of our heroes inspire us to serve selflessly,” he said.
Governor Abiodun emphasized that the welfare of the families of fallen heroes should not rest solely on the Nigeria Legion but should be a collective duty for all Nigerians.
He reiterated that their sacrifices should be deeply embedded in the nation’s history and in the hearts of every citizen.
“We must ensure that the legacies of our armed forces live on, woven into the fabric of our national identity. The Nigeria Legion has tirelessly worked to care for the families of our fallen heroes, but this is a shared responsibility,” he stated.
Governor Abiodun expressed his commitment to implementing policies that will foster the economic growth and development of the country, supporting law enforcement agencies in the state, and ensuring that the sacrifices of fallen heroes are never forgotten.
In his sermon, Rt. Rev’d Emmanuel Akinrodoye, Bishop of Egba Diocese, the African Church, emphasized the importance of acknowledging God’s benevolence amidst the nation’s challenges, urging Nigerians to remain prayerful for the families of fallen heroes and the nation’s well-being.
Bishop Akinrodoye also called on the government to provide adequate resources to security agencies to combat insurgency, and encouraged Nigerians to show love and support for the security personnel protecting the nation.
Prayers were offered for the peace of the nation, Ogun State, the governor, and their families, with Governor Abiodun reading from Ephesians 2:1-10.
