In a statement issued on Tuesday by Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, the Army clarified that Olamilekan violated several military regulations, including breaches of social media guidelines. The Army noted that its personnel are bound by strict rules governing conduct, media engagement, and the use of military identity, all of which must be followed without exception.

The statement further explained that the former soldier’s case went through proper military disciplinary procedures before the final decision was reached. It emphasized that the Army remains committed to discipline, accountability, and professionalism, and that operational decisions are not influenced by public opinion. The military also urged Nigerians to disregard claims suggesting that he was dismissed for expressing his views, describing such reports as misleading and capable of undermining trust in the institution.

Olamilekan gained public attention in February 2026 after a viral video in which he urged political leaders to allow their children to serve in the military at lower ranks. The video sparked widespread reactions online. Following the incident, there were claims that he was detained for weeks, leading to public calls for his release. He was later freed in March 2026, after which he expressed gratitude to those who supported him during the period.
