Suspended party chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, and several other party leaders were also present. The meeting saw the participation of former governors, including Babangida Aliyu (Niger State), Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (Sokoto), and Ibrahim Shekarau (Kano).

Notably, seven serving governors from the PDP were in attendance, among them Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Godwin Obaseki of Edo, Ademola Adeleke of Osun, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, and Lawal Dauda of Zamfara.

Although specific details of the discussion were not disclosed by Atiku, a source revealed that the primary aim of the closed-door meeting was to strategize on preventing former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, from exerting too much influence over the party’s leadership.

The meeting focused on supporting one of the ex-governors to succeed Iyorchia Ayu as the PDP National Chairman. The source clarified that loyalists of Atiku within the party were invited to the meeting, intentionally excluding members of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC).

The main objective of this strategic gathering was to thwart any attempts by Wike to dominate the PDP structure and ensure that one of his associates becomes the party’s national chairman.
