Atiku Applauds Six Nigerians Honored By President Biden In Historic U.S. Awards Ceremony

The six Nigerians were among 400 recipients of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), conferred by President Biden during a ceremony marking the closing days of his administration.
The honorees include Azeez Butali, a Gilbert Lilly Professor of Diagnostic Sciences at the University of Iowa; Ijeoma Opara, an Associate Professor of Public Health at Yale University; Dr. Oluwatomi Akindele, a researcher at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory; Eno Ebong, an Associate Professor at Northeastern University; Oluwasanmi Koyejo, an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University; and Abidemi Ajiboye, Executive Vice Chair at the Case School of Engineering, Case Western Reserve University.
In a statement released on Thursday, Atiku, the former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), commended the recipients for bringing global recognition to Nigeria through their excellence.
He said:
“On January 14, 2025, President Joe Biden named 400 recipients of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) in the United States. It is a matter of great pride that six Nigerians were among the honorees.
“Congratulations to Azeez Butali, Ijeoma Opara, Dr. Oluwatomi Akindele, Eno Ebong, Oluwasanmi Koyejo, and Abidemi Ajiboye for their remarkable achievements. It is heartwarming to see scientists and engineers of Nigerian origin make such significant contributions globally.
“This recognition underscores the immense potential and talent that Nigerians possess, further cementing the nation’s reputation for excellence on the global stage.”
