Okupe clarified that his withdrawal of support for Obi was due to his personal disinterest in continuing to work with him, denying any accusations of betrayal. He emphasized that his political journey and decisions couldn’t be dictated solely by Obi’s ambitions.

According to Okupe, he was influenced by Pa Ayo Adebanjo to support Obi, citing a preference for a southern presidency in 2023 and a belief in fairness, particularly advocating for the South-East to produce Nigeria’s next president.

Reflecting on the Labour Party’s campaign, Okupe acknowledged their efforts but highlighted organizational deficiencies that hindered their ability to compete effectively in the election.

In response to Okupe’s statements, the Chairman of the Labour Party in Osun State, Bello Adebayo, defended Obi, asserting that Obi did not betray Atiku by choosing to contest outside the PDP.
