In the past three months, a Saturday PUNCH investigation has revealed that at least 11 university students lost their lives, and 22 others were abducted in various violent incidents across Nigerian campuses……… CONTINUE READING
Tragically, these incidents included the suicide of Favour Ugwuka, a final-year student at Ebonyi State University Abakaliki, who took her own life in her hostel at the Ishieke Campus on May 22, 2024.
Another grim event occurred at Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo State, where Alex Timileyi, a 200-level engineering student, was fatally beaten by a fellow student over allegations of theft of a mobile phone.
In Benue State, gunmen abducted two female students from Joseph Sarwuan University of Agriculture, Makurdi, during the same month.
Further adding to the sorrow, two students from Confluence State University of Science and Technology in Lokoja, Kogi State, were kidnapped on May 9 and subsequently killed on May 25, 2024.
On June 13, a female student of the University of Benin, Adekolore Glory, tragically lost her life after being raped in Iyowa Community, Benin City.
