Audu Appeals For Protest Suspension, Highlights Tinubu’s Plan For 500,000 Jobs

In a statement released on Friday in Abuja by his Special Assistant on Media, Lizzy Okoji, Audu reassured protestors that President Tinubu is diligently addressing the nation’s economic difficulties. He emphasized the administration’s progress and promised that Nigerians will see improvements in governance by 2027.

Audu noted that the government is making significant efforts to revive the country’s steel industry, aiming to create 500,000 direct and indirect jobs. He urged Nigerians to pause their protests and engage in dialogue to resolve their concerns.

The minister highlighted several initiatives undertaken by the administration, including the recent introduction of a N70,000 minimum wage, the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative to reduce transportation costs, and N50,000 uplift grants distributed to over 100,000 families per state for three months, benefiting nearly 5 million families.

He also mentioned the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari’s commitment to reducing food prices within 180 days, including the importation of 250,000 metric tonnes each of wheat and maize for local processing.

In the health sector, President Tinubu has directed the redesign of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, leading to a $2.5 billion investment to enhance primary health care.

Audu emphasized that, under President Tinubu’s leadership, the cabinet is tirelessly working to implement policies that will contribute to the Renewed Hope Agenda and improve the country. He added that the reforms in the steel sector are expected to generate substantial job opportunities and attract foreign investment.

This appeal comes as hunger protests continued for a second day, with the Nigeria Police Force reporting fatalities due to the unrest in various states.
