The governor expressed concern that the protest could potentially escalate into violence, threatening the state’s progress towards prosperity. He also recalled the lasting effects of the 2020 #EndSARS protest, which led to significant violence and damage in Ekiti.

Oyebanji assured residents that they should continue their daily activities without fear. He emphasized that no one should face intimidation or harassment under the pretense of protesting. The governor committed to ensuring the protection of the state, with security agencies on high alert to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

He called on parents, traditional rulers, and religious leaders to discourage youths from being used by those aiming to incite violence. Oyebanji highlighted the unpredictable nature of protests, noting that even initially peaceful demonstrations can devolve into violence.

While acknowledging the constitutional right to freedom of expression, Oyebanji stressed that protests should be conducted peacefully, without disturbing the rights of others to movement and safety. He warned against violence, especially given the ongoing efforts to revitalize the state’s economy, which are showing early signs of success.

The governor reflected on the devastating impact of the 2020 protests, which led to the destruction of private and government properties, including critical infrastructure and business establishments.
