Basiru Takes Swipe At Adeleke, Says Osun Has Experienced Setbacks Under His Leadership

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has accused Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke of taking the state backwards since assuming office.

Basiru made the allegation on Thursday while speaking at the APC mega rally in Osogbo, where he also claimed that the Adeleke administration had failed to properly utilise increased federal allocations to improve education, electricity and road infrastructure.

“For about three years and a half that the current governor assumed office, it has been setbacks for Osun State,” Basiru said.

The APC national secretary noted that states had received higher allocations from the Federal Government since President Bola Tinubu assumed office, but questioned how Osun State had utilised its share.

“Upon Tinubu’s assumption of office, states have been receiving heavy allocations from the Federal Government but what did Adeleke do with the money? Education and electricity are functioning below par,” he said.

Basiru also criticised the state government over employment and infrastructure, alleging that some teachers who were expected to be recruited remained unemployed.

“Teachers that should have been employed under this administration still lack jobs, good roads that they were supposed to do, they did not,” he said.

He further accused the administration of being “only concerned on how to embezzle money,” although he did not provide evidence to support the allegation during the rally.

Basiru also alleged that the government had neglected several roads in Osogbo.

“In Osogbo alone, there are several roads that this government has refused to construct,” he claimed.

Basiru Backs Oyebamiji

The APC national secretary urged Osun voters to examine the records, experience and competence of all the candidates before deciding who to support in Saturday’s governorship election.

He described the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, as an experienced politician with a strong understanding of governance.

“On Saturday, our candidate is capable because he has knowledge of governance. Our candidate has insight in governance,” Basiru said.

He also urged voters to consider the long-term consequences of their choice, particularly for the future of the state and younger generations.

“On Saturday, it’s the votes for the future of our children,” he added.

APC Denies Plans to Rig Election

Basiru also dismissed claims by opposition parties that the APC was planning to manipulate the election.

He argued that the party had enough electoral support to secure victory without resorting to electoral malpractice.

“Those saying yesterday that APC intend to rig the election, are they up to us in numeric value?” he asked.

The APC national secretary further mocked the opposition’s mobilisation efforts, claiming that rival parties had failed to match the crowd assembled by the APC.

“We will vote and also have a victorious laugh on Saturday,” he declared.
