A statement released on Wednesday, September 20, by Doubara Atasi, a media aide to the deputy governor, reported that during their visit to Government House in Yenagoa, the two religious organizations expressed strong support for Governor Diri’s administration.

Representing both groups, the state chairman of CAN, Rev. Father Joseph Opelema, and his counterpart from the Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Yakubu Otobo, declared that the Christian and Muslim communities had jointly decided to back the re-election of the governor and his deputy to ensure the continuity of the prosperity agenda in Bayelsa State.

The leaders stated that their visit was prompted by the favorable reviews of Governor Douye Diri’s administration and to convey their wholehearted endorsement for the re-election of the governor and his deputy.

They emphasized their commitment to doing everything within their capabilities to support and uphold the current administration in the state.

The CAN and CIA leaders also assured Governor Diri of their continued prayers and pledged their unwavering support. They expressed their determination to stand by the PDP-led administration throughout the forthcoming governorship election.

In response, Governor Diri, represented by his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, expressed gratitude to the religious organizations for their words of encouragement and support.

He commended them for their continued backing, noting that their endorsement would inspire the administration to further contribute to the state’s development.

The governor encouraged the Christian and Muslim communities to always stand for truth, speak candidly, and actively engage in politics to contribute to societal progress.

He assured them of government support for their prayers and programs to ensure a peaceful election in the state.
