Nigerian author, lawyer, and political analyst, Reno Omokri has urged Nigerians to take a look at what has happened to other countries before they criticize Nigeria.

In his word, he said:

“Before we open our mouths to run down Nigeria and call or the worst country in the world (it is not), let us learn from the Sudan crisis. With war raging in Sudan, what happened to Nigerians who had japa’ed to Sudan? They are all trying to come home. When war hit Ukraine, what happened to Nigerians there? They were airlifted back home. When the xenophobic attacks erupted in South Africa, Nigerians were begging to be airlifted back home. Why? Because not all that glitters is gold. And not every house is as good as your home. May God bless Nigeria and Nigerians!.” CONTINUE READING

Ukraine War and the Effect on Nigeria:

The Ukraine War, which started in 2014, is a conflict between the Ukrainian government and Russian-backed separatists in the eastern regions of Ukraine. While the conflict is primarily a regional issue, it has global implications and could have effects on countries far beyond Ukraine. Nigeria is one such country that may be affected by the Ukraine War, both directly and indirectly.

Directly, Nigeria is home to a significant number of Ukrainian expatriates and students who may have family or friends directly impacted by the conflict. The war may also affect Nigeria’s diplomatic relations with both Ukraine and Russia, as the country has diplomatic ties with both nations. Nigeria could be called upon to take a stance on the conflict, which could potentially affect its foreign policy and international standing.

Indirectly, the Ukraine War could impact Nigeria’s economy through global oil prices. Ukraine is not a major oil-producing country, but its proximity to Russia makes it a key transit point for Russian oil exports to Europe. The conflict could disrupt oil transportation routes and potentially impact global oil prices, which would affect Nigeria as a major oil-exporting nation.

In addition, the Ukraine War could also have wider implications for global security and stability, which could indirectly impact Nigeria. The conflict has raised tensions between Russia and other Western nations, and if tensions continue to escalate, it could have wider implications for global peace and security.

Overall, while the Ukraine War may not have an immediate or direct impact on Nigeria, it could have ripple effects on the country’s economy and diplomatic relations. It is important for Nigeria to closely monitor the conflict and its potential implications, and to work with other nations to promote peace and stability in the region.  CONTINUE READING

Sudanese Chaos and the effect on Nigeria:

The current political and social chaos in Sudan is unlikely to have a direct impact on Nigeria, as the two countries are located quite far from each other, and their political and economic systems are distinct. However, there are some potential indirect effects that could be felt in Nigeria.

Firstly, the chaos in Sudan could lead to an increase in the number of refugees fleeing the country. Nigeria already hosts a large number of refugees from other African countries, such as Cameroon, Chad, and the Central African Republic. An influx of Sudanese refugees could strain Nigeria’s already limited resources and put pressure on the country’s social services.

Secondly, the instability in Sudan could contribute to the spread of terrorism in the region. Sudan has a history of harboring and supporting terrorist groups, and the collapse of the government could create a power vacuum that could be exploited by extremist groups. Nigeria has already been grappling with Boko Haram, a terrorist organization that has carried out attacks in the country’s northeast region for over a decade. Any increase in terrorist activity in the region could exacerbate Nigeria’s security challenges.

Finally, the chaos in Sudan could have economic implications for Nigeria. Sudan is an oil-producing country, and any disruption in its oil production could affect global oil prices, which could, in turn, impact Nigeria’s oil-dependent economy. However, Nigeria is also an oil-producing country, and the country has been working to diversify its economy away from oil, so any economic impact from Sudan’s instability is likely to be limited.

South Africa Xenophobic attacks and the effect on Nigerians:

Xenophobic attacks are violent and hostile actions directed towards foreigners in a country. Unfortunately, South Africa has experienced several xenophobic attacks in recent years, with Nigerians being among the targeted groups. The attacks have had a significant effect on the Nigerian community in South Africa, causing fear, displacement, and even loss of lives.

The attacks have been fueled by several factors, including competition for resources, socio-economic inequality, and political tensions. Some South Africans blame foreigners, including Nigerians, for taking jobs and opportunities away from locals. There have also been incidents where Nigerians have been accused of engaging in criminal activities, which has led to tensions between the two communities.

The effect of the attacks on Nigerians living in South Africa has been devastating. Many have been forced to flee their homes and businesses, while some have lost their lives. There have been reports of Nigerian-owned businesses being vandalized and looted, with some Nigerians being beaten and killed in the attacks.

The Nigerian government has been proactive in responding to the attacks, with the Nigerian High Commission in South Africa offering assistance to affected Nigerians. The Nigerian government has also called on the South African government to take decisive action to address the root causes of the attacks and protect Nigerian citizens living in South Africa.

In conclusion, the xenophobic attacks in South Africa have had a significant impact on the Nigerian community in the country. The situation highlights the need for governments to work together to address the root causes of such attacks and ensure the safety and protection of all citizens, regardless of their nationality.
