**CBN Approves Merger of Unity and Providus Banks**

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has approved financial support for the merger between Unity Bank Plc and Providus Bank Limited. According to a statement from Hakama Sidi-Ali, Acting Director of Corporate Communications at the CBN, this support aims to enhance the stability of Nigeria’s financial system and prevent potential systemic risks.

The approval, made under Section 42 (2) of the CBN Act, 2007, will assist Unity Bank in meeting its obligations to the CBN and other stakeholders. The CBN assures that this measure is essential for the financial health and operational stability of the newly merged entity. It also emphasized that no Nigerian bank is currently facing a situation as critical as that of Heritage Bank, which was recently liquidated.
