Blackout Hits Calabar As Storm Brings Down Power PolesSeveral communities in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, are currently experiencing power outages after a windstorm caused significant damage to electricity poles. In a statement, PHED explained, “We wish to inform our esteemed customers in Calabar that the outage currently being experienced is due to a heavy windstorm that damaged many poles in our network.” Areas affected by the power cut include the University of Calabar, Federal Housing Estate, Transcorp, EPZ Complex, and several others.

The electricity company assured its customers that the situation is being urgently addressed. “Our technical team is working diligently to restore power,” the statement continued, highlighting the affected areas, which include Bao Yao Iron and Steel, OLAM, Niger Mill, MCC, Amika, Leopard, and others.

PHED appealed to residents for patience and understanding while work continues to repair the damage. This disruption comes at a time when Nigerians are already grappling with frequent grid collapses, exacerbating the country’s ongoing electricity challenges.
