The directive was issued in an internal memo on Tuesday by Aishatu Sani Alhassan, Director of School Services at the FCT Secondary Education Board.
Addressed to school principals and heads, the memo instructed that all academic activities be suspended immediately, with emphasis on ensuring a safe and orderly dismissal of students. Schools were also directed to promptly inform learners, staff, and parents about the closure.
Authorities were further instructed to reschedule all affected academic activities and prepare for classes to resume on the next official school day, unless new directives are issued.
The closure follows a recent surge in attacks on schools across the country. On November 12, 25 female students were abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State. More recently, on November 21, the Niger State government confirmed that bandits had kidnapped several students and staff from St. Mary’s School in Papiri, Agwara LGA.
The Catholic Diocese of Kotangora reported that a total of 315 individuals, including 303 students and 12 teachers, were abducted during the attack.
