Ekpa, who has been in detention for several weeks, is currently being held at Kylmäkoski Prison, a maximum-security facility widely regarded as one of the toughest in the world.

In addition to freezing Ekpa’s personal assets, the Finnish government has also targeted companies linked to him, as well as those associated with four of his alleged accomplices, who are also in custody.

According to Yle, a Finnish news outlet, Ekpa will remain in detention over the Christmas and New Year period, as Finland’s legal system does not grant bail to suspects facing such serious terrorism charges.

Mikko Laaksonen, Senior Detective Superintendent at Finland’s National Bureau of Investigation, confirmed that Ekpa would stay in custody, emphasizing that bail is not an option for terrorism-related offences under Finnish law.

Kylmäkoski Prison, located in Akaa, Finland, is a high-security facility established in 1993 to house male prisoners. It is known for its strict security measures and holds individuals convicted or remanded for violent crimes, including sex offenders and other high-risk detainees.

At present, the facility houses 113 inmates, comprising both convicted criminals and those awaiting trial.

In response to inquiries, Mika Ojamies, Yle’s Head of International Communications, confirmed Ekpa’s detention at Kylmäkoski Prison. The prison recently garnered international attention after being featured in the 2023 Netflix documentary series Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons, which highlighted its stringent security protocols.

Ekpa, who refers to himself as the “Prime Minister” of the Biafra Republic Government-in-Exile, was arrested alongside four associates about a month ago.
