Breaking: Fubara Set To Dump PDP For APC – Political Shakeup Looms
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State is reportedly preparing to announce his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), according to sources close to the Government House.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The move follows Fubara’s recent reconciliation with his former political godfather and predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who now serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The political feud, which erupted in late 2023, escalated rapidly, culminating in an attempted impeachment by pro-Wike members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. In October 2023, tensions reached a peak when a section of the State House of Assembly complex was set ablaze.
The crisis prompted federal intervention. In March 2025, President Bola Tinubu declared a State of Emergency in Rivers State, suspending Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the House of Assembly for an initial six months. During this period, the state was administered by former Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok Ekwe Ibas, until the suspension was lifted in September 2025.
According to The Whistler, Fubara’s impending defection is widely seen as an effort to secure political refuge and align with the federal power structure, particularly as his influence within the fractured PDP may have been significantly weakened during the prolonged power struggle.
Fubara, a former Accountant General of Rivers State (2020), had won the PDP governorship primary in May 2022 with Wike’s endorsement and went on to defeat APC candidate Tonye Cole in the March 2023 governorship election by over 300,000 votes.
The Governor reportedly held a private meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Monday night, fueling speculation about his imminent move to the APC.
