This strategic appointment underscores the Forum’s renewed commitment to strengthening institutional capacity and enhancing coordination among the 19 northern states to effectively address the region’s pressing challenges.
The creation of the Director-General role is aimed at transforming the Secretariat into a more efficient hub for policy coordination, collective action, and long-term development planning.
Ezekiel Gomos, a former Secretary to the Plateau State Government, is a seasoned development economist and policy expert with extensive experience in public service, governance reform, private-sector development, and human capital advancement.
His career includes senior positions at prominent institutions such as the New Nigeria Development Company (NNDC) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). He has also served as Lead Consultant and Head of Faculty at the Jos Business School (JBS), a centre focused on entrepreneurship, leadership training, and policy dialogue.
For nearly 20 years, Gomos has contributed as a resource person at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, helping train senior leaders in policy, strategy, and national development.
Academically, he holds graduate and postgraduate degrees from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the University of East Anglia, UK, and has been awarded prestigious international fellowships including the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship at the University of Minnesota, the British Chevening Scholarship, and the UNDP Fellowship at the ILO Training Centre in Turin. He has also attended executive programs at Harvard Kennedy School, the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and Durham University Business School.
Presenting the appointment letter, Governor Inuwa Yahaya urged Gomos to leverage his vast expertise in strategic leadership, institutional development, and policy management to transform the NSGF Secretariat into a strong platform for regional security coordination, economic cooperation, and sustainable development across northern Nigeria.
The NSGF Chairman expressed confidence that Gomos’ leadership will usher in a new era of enhanced collaboration, effective coordination, and cohesive regional responses to the North’s critical challenges.
