Previously, the state government had imposed a 24-hour curfew on Sunday to enhance security and maintain public order. This curfew was adjusted on Wednesday, allowing movement from 2 pm to 6 pm.
The updated curfew details were announced in a statement by Gyang Bere, the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor. The statement noted: “Due to the improved security situation in the Jos-Bukuru area, the Plateau State Government has further relaxed the curfew starting today, Thursday, August 8, 2024.”
It continued: “Residents can now move freely for their lawful activities from 12 noon to 6 pm daily until further notice. Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, after consulting with security agencies, authorized this relaxation. He reassured the public that the government remains committed to acting in the best interest of its people.”
The Governor also praised residents for their peaceful behavior during the curfew and urged continued cooperation with security agencies to ensure ongoing safety and security in the state.
