The victims were identified as the wife and an in-law of Barrister Cyril Adikwu. According to Austine John, a neighbor of the affected family, the kidnappers forcefully entered the barrister’s residence, initiating the ordeal with a series of gunshots. Fortunately, Barrister Adikwu managed to evade capture while the perpetrators seized his wife and in-law.

The unsettling incident prompted immediate action from the estate’s management upon receiving alerts from concerned residents. Austine John recounted the harrowing experience: “It all started around 10:00 p.m. We suddenly heard gunshots, and it became evident that something was amiss. I quickly ensured my gate was securely locked. Gunfire emanated from the barrister’s residence, prompting us to alert the estate’s management. They promptly engaged, and shortly thereafter, military personnel arrived, firing shots in an attempt to thwart the kidnappers. However, by the time the security forces intervened, the kidnappers had already escaped with the barrister’s wife and in-law.”

The aftermath of the incident left residents deeply traumatized, with fears lingering throughout the night of a potential return by the kidnappers. Austine John expressed his concerns and called upon President Tinubu to take decisive action to end such barbaric acts perpetrated by kidnappers in the country.
