Breaking News: House Committee On SME Engages Finance Minister Regarding Presidential Economic Support

Prior to this meeting, the House Committee had engaged with other key figures, including the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Doris Anite, the Accountant General of the Federation, and the DG/CEO of SMEDAN, Mr. Charles Odii, to gather comprehensive information on the matter.

Aleeyu Darazo, Personal Assistant, New Media to the Committee Chairman on SME, emphasized the 10th House of Representatives’ dedication, led by Rt Hon Tajudden Abass, to SME development. This commitment led to the creation of a standing committee on SME to oversee the activities and programs of line MDAs effectively.

Darazo explained that the presidential palliative grants and loans, distributed in three tranches – N50,000 grants to 1 million nano businesses, N100,000 – N1 million, and N75 billion to manufacturers – are poised for imminent disbursement.

A reminder was given that President Bola Tinubu had directed the implementation of palliatives to alleviate the impact of the removal of the petrol subsidy across the agricultural, transportation, social safety, and SME sectors in July 2023. Consequently, the House of Representatives, through a resolution, mandated its committee on SME to engage with government officials to ensure the timely and efficient implementation of the palliative measures.
