Chief Magistrate Jibril Salihu, who issued the ex parte order, concurred with the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ibrahim Sulyman, that the protest could escalate into violence if unrestricted. The respondents in the case include the Director of the State Security Service, Kwara State; the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command; the Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps; and the Take-It-Back Movement, among others.

Salihu stated, “After considering Senior Ibrahim Sulyman’s arguments and reviewing the affidavit and written address supporting the motion ex parte, the following orders are granted:

“An interim injunction is issued restraining the 4th-6th respondents, their agents, or anyone acting on their behalf, from holding their proposed protest, rallies, processions, or meetings anywhere other than Metropolitan Square/Asa Dam Road, Kwara State. This order is effective for seven days starting August 1, 2024.

“It is further ordered that the 1st-3rd respondents must ensure adequate security to protect citizens, residents, and government infrastructure from any acts of protest by the 4th-6th respondents during this period or until the motion on notice is resolved.”

The Chief Magistrate also instructed that all court documents related to the case be served on the 4th-6th respondents by posting them at the High Court of Justice premises.
