In a Christmas message titled ‘AT CHRISTMAS: MAY OUR HOPE BE IN CHRIST,’ NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero emphasized the need for tangible government actions with concrete results instead of mere handouts.
Ajaero stated, “Despite the difficulties that many of us have faced and continue to endure, let us remember the essence of Christmas – a time of reflection, gratitude, and the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. His teachings emphasize love, compassion, and the enduring power of hope even in the face of adversity.”
He further highlighted the importance of unity among Nigerians, urging citizens to recognize their commonality as workers and the masses. Ajaero stressed the necessity of avoiding division along ethnic, religious, or communal lines, emphasizing the potential strength that unity could bring in building a better nation.
According to Ajaero, demonstrating love involves understanding that, as a collective, Nigerians share common struggles such as oppression, fear, deprivation, misery, poverty, and helplessness. He asserted that recognizing this shared experience could empower them to overcome challenges and work towards creating a liberated and progressive nation.
Ajaero called on leaders to prioritize transparency and good governance, stating, “Nigerians should be allowed to win in accordance with the teachings of Christ because it is the essence of leadership.” He urged leaders to focus on creating effective platforms that enable people to unleash their energies for wealth creation, rather than policies that demoralize and erode hope.
In conclusion, the NLC emphasized the importance of leaders putting smiles on the faces of Nigerians during the festive season and pursuing initiatives that offer hope to the people, fostering an environment conducive to national development.
