Naija News reports that Nkwonta’s defection was announced on the House floor during Wednesday’s plenary session by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas in Abuja.
Nkwonta represents the Ukwa East/West constituency of Abia State.
In response to the defection, Deputy Minority Leader Aliyu Madaki cited a section of the constitution and called for Nkwonta’s seat to be declared vacant.
However, Speaker Abbas responded, stating that he was aware of a faction within the PDP.
