Naija News reports that El-Rufai recently denied allegations of embezzling state funds during his tenure as Kaduna State Governor. The Kaduna State House of Assembly had previously indicted his administration for misappropriating over N423 billion. However, El-Rufai and his allies from the All Progressives Congress (APC) have dismissed these claims, alleging that they are victims of political witch-hunting by the Assembly and the state government.
In a recent appearance on a Hausa program aired on Freedom Radio in Kaduna, El-Rufai asserted that he entered politics to serve the people, not to amass wealth or steal public funds. He insisted he was satisfied with his circumstances before becoming governor and claimed he faced accusations of financial misappropriation without any specific evidence.
In response, Rabiu criticized El-Rufai’s denial of wrongdoing, stating, “Former Governor El-Rufai should wait patiently for the final investigation before making any statements against his predecessors or swearing with the Quran regarding his administration in Kaduna State.”
Rabiu also recalled how El-Rufai had previously initiated a petition against former governor Senator Ahmed Makarfi, which led to an investigation of Makarfi’s administration. “Honestly, El-Rufai appears to lack the discipline, self-control, and focus to do the right thing rather than swearing with the holy Quran. This is the same El-Rufai who fled to a foreign country during the regime of the late President Yar’Adua, only returning after the President’s death in 2010 to make unwarranted comments about him,” Rabiu told Daily Post.
Rabiu urged the Kaduna State government, along with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), to investigate the former governor and seek restitution for the funds misappropriated during his administration.
