It’s worth noting that President Bola Tinubu appointed Ibrahim and Olawande as Minister of Youth and Minister of State for Youth in September.
The Minister of Youth position became vacant when President Tinubu reassigned Abubakar Momoh to the Ministry of Niger Delta Development.
The Senate President, who read a letter sent to the Senate on Tuesday, explained that President Tinubu nominated Abbas to replace the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, who was not screened and cleared by the Senate due to security concerns.
The President’s request for the nominees’ confirmation is based on Section 147(2) of the constitution as amended.
The screening process commenced on Wednesday after a motion was moved by Opeyemi Bamidele, the Senate Leader. The upper legislative chamber entered into the “committee of the whole” to conduct the screening and confirmation.
