BREAKING: ‘No More Backyard Support!’ — Fubara Officially Dumps PDP, Declares For APC In Viral Video

Fubara made the announcement during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
“We cannot continue to support the President from the background. We must openly identify with him,” Fubara said. “Our decision this evening is that we are moving to the APC.”
The governor’s decision comes shortly after resolving his long-standing political feud with his predecessor and former ally, Nyesom Wike, now serving as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
The dispute, which erupted in late 2023, escalated into a major state crisis, including an impeachment attempt by pro-Wike lawmakers and an arson attack on the State House of Assembly in October of that year.
The situation prompted federal intervention. In March 2025, President Bola Tinubu declared a State of Emergency in Rivers State, leading to the temporary suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the House of Assembly for six months.
During the period, governance was administered by a sole administrator, former Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok Ekwe Ibas, until democratic structures were restored in September 2025.
