The demonstration, held on Wednesday, brought together several notable politicians under the platform of the African Democratic Congress. Among those present were Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi, and Aminu Tambuwal.

The group marched with placards under the banner of a “Save Democracy” protest, following INEC’s recent decision to withdraw recognition from a faction of the ADC leadership led by David Mark.

The development triggered reactions from party members and supporters, eventually leading to the public demonstration.

Obi explained that his participation, alongside other leaders and supporters, was part of a peaceful effort to defend and protect Nigeria’s democratic system.

He noted that the situation highlights what he described as the gradual decline of democratic values in the country.

According to him, any actions that weaken opposition voices or undermine democratic processes must be resisted.

Obi further warned that individuals who once fought for democracy but now act in ways that threaten it will ultimately be judged by history.

In a post on social media, he wrote that the protest was not only about defending democracy but also a moment of reflection on the nation’s current state.

He emphasised the need to resist what he described as the erosion of democratic principles by those who once championed them but are now contributing to their decline.

Obi concluded by asserting that the will of the people must remain supreme, adding that Nigerians will not be silenced or intimidated in their pursuit of a stronger and more accountable democracy.
