Akpabio made the disclosure on Thursday while addressing worshippers at Sacred Heart Parish in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

He revealed that he had initiated nearly nine defamation cases against individuals he accused of spreading falsehoods and damaging his reputation.

“I had close to nine cases in court against people who defamed me, lied about me and slandered my name,” he said. “But after listening to the priest, I realised the message was meant for me, and I have therefore directed my lawyer to withdraw all the cases.”

In 2025, Akpabio instituted several high-profile defamation lawsuits, including one against his colleague, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Later that year, he filed a ₦200 billion defamation suit against Akpoti-Uduaghan over allegations of sexual harassment, which he denied and challenged her to prove in court.

Earlier in the year, Akpabio’s wife also initiated separate defamation actions against the Kogi lawmaker, claiming that certain statements had harmed her family’s reputation.

Relations between Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan deteriorated after she accused the Senate President of orchestrating her suspension from the Senate in March 2025 following her public allegations of misconduct.

Akpoti-Uduaghan subsequently approached the courts to challenge the actions taken against her, including filing a ₦100 billion defamation suit against Akpabio and others over statements she said damaged her reputation.
