The attacks, orchestrated by unidentified assailants, targeted 15 communities in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas. The assailants also torched eight vehicles during the violent incident. In a statement, Commissioner Alawari expressed sorrow over the tragic events and extended condolences to the families affected by the brutal assault.

The attacks occurred in the late hours of December 24, 2023, in 12 villages in Bokkos LGA, including Ndun, Ngyong, Murfet, Makundary, Tamiso, Chiang, Tahore, Gawarba, Dares, Meyenga, Darwat, and Butura Kampani. Additionally, three villages in Barkin-Ladi LGA—NTV, Hurum, and Darawat—faced assaults around 2245hrs on the same day.

To curb further violence, the Commissioner of Police ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to relocate to Bokkos LGA. Additionally, a team of operational forces was deployed to the affected areas to prevent subsequent attacks and assess the extent of the damages.

The assessment revealed that a total of 221 houses were set ablaze, 27 motorcycles were burnt, and eight motor vehicles were destroyed in the 12 attacked villages of Bokkos LGA. The casualties numbered over 79 in Bokkos LGA, while 17 deaths were recorded in Barkin-Ladi LGA. Investigations and monitoring of the incidents are ongoing, with further updates to be communicated as developments unfold.
