In his nationwide address, President Tinubu announced the suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, and the members of the State House of Assembly. He also declared a state of emergency due to the ongoing political crisis in the state, despite multiple efforts to resolve the differences.
When approached for a statement following the president’s announcement, the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, said it would be premature for the government to take a firm stance at this time.
“It’s too early to make any comments on the president’s declaration. The president has made his declaration, and I think it is unwise to form a position just yet,” Johnson told Vanguard.
The president also named Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd) as the Administrator to oversee the affairs of the state during this period.
