Breaking: Senate Issues Arrest Warrant For Julius Berger’s Non-Compliance With InvitationsThe Nigerian Senate has issued a warrant of arrest against the management of Julius Berger Construction Company for repeatedly ignoring its invitations.

The Senate’s decision came on Thursday following a motion raised by Senator Osita Ngwu, representing Enugu West, who expressed concern over the company’s consistent failure to appear before the Senate Committee on Works. Senator Ngwu highlighted the numerous unfulfilled contracts left by Julius Berger across the country, emphasizing the need for an investigation into these issues.

Ngwu accused the company of taking the Senate for granted, stating, “If a committee summons any person or entity to a hearing and they fail to appear or send a representative, the proper procedure is to report to the presiding officer, after which a warrant can be issued.”

He urged Senate President Godswill Akpabio to compel Julius Berger to attend the investigation. Senator Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi Central, supported this view, stressing that the Senate President is constitutionally empowered to issue an arrest warrant to ensure compliance. Ningi also pointed out that the Senate and its committees derive their authority from the Constitution and Senate rules, which allow the presiding officer to compel the appearance of any individual or entity through a warrant.

While Senator Adams Oshiomhole disagreed, Senate President Akpabio, citing relevant sections of the Constitution and Senate rules, affirmed the decision to issue the arrest warrant, ensuring the company’s compliance with the Senate’s summons.
