Mimiko Named Best Student As 34 UNIMED Graduates Secure First Class DegreesThe University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, conferred first degrees to 634 students during its sixth convocation ceremony, with 34 graduates achieving first-class honors. In addition, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, former governor of Ondo State, was recognized as the best graduating Master’s student for the 2024 academic session. Mimiko, who completed the Master of Health Law and Policy program, was awarded the “Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu Prize” for his exceptional academic performance.

During the ceremony on Thursday, Fatusi revealed that out of the 634 graduates, 539 were from undergraduate programs, while 95 completed postgraduate studies. Among the undergraduate graduates, 34 earned first-class honors, 223 graduated with second-class upper, 145 with second-class lower, 9 with third-class degrees, and 127 received unclassified degrees. The unclassified graduates included 41 medical doctors, 23 dental surgeons, and 64 physiotherapists.

The postgraduate cohort consisted of 36 students with postgraduate diplomas, 19 with Master of Public Health degrees, 38 with Master of Science (MSc) degrees, 2 with MPhil degrees, and 1 with a PhD.

Fatusi praised the university’s decade-long achievements, highlighting that UNIMED had successfully produced medical doctors, dentists, nurses, physiotherapists, medical laboratory scientists, and graduates in other health sciences, making a significant impact on Nigeria’s educational and healthcare sectors.

“UNIMED has produced three sets of medical doctors, three sets of dentists, four sets of nurses, four sets of physiotherapists, two sets of medical laboratory scientists, and six sets of health sciences graduates in just 10 years,” Fatusi said, calling it a remarkable accomplishment in Nigeria’s educational history.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the university’s Visitor, also commended the institution’s progress, revealing that his administration had committed N1 billion towards the construction of the university’s senate building. He expressed pride in UNIMED’s achievements, emphasizing the university’s consistent 100% pass rate in professional exams for fields such as Nursing, Medical Laboratory Sciences, and Community Health.

Aiyedatiwa added, “Each graduate has not only completed an academic journey but is now part of the pioneering spirit that has defined this institution since its establishment.”
