The President will travel aboard the newly acquired Airbus A330, which arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at 8:29 p.m. on Sunday. This aircraft, which landed after departing EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg in France at 4:16 p.m., was recently released following legal disputes involving a Chinese firm and the Ogun State Government.

Earlier reports indicated that Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. Limited had facilitated the release of this aircraft as a goodwill gesture, anticipating the upcoming meeting between President Tinubu and French President Emmanuel Macron. The company’s decision to release the jet was intended to support this diplomatic engagement.

The Airbus A330-200, registered as 5N-FGA, features luxurious amenities including a bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, an office, a conference and dining room, and first-class and economy seating. The aircraft was acquired after a German bank took possession due to a default on a loan by an Arab businessman.

The acquisition of this jet, reportedly costing over N150 billion, has sparked controversy amid the country’s economic challenges. The jet’s arrival follows earlier reports of its preparation in France, complete with a Nigerian presidential seal.

Omoyele Sowore, leader of the #RevolutionNow movement, questioned the circumstances surrounding the jet’s release and the choice of aircraft for President Tinubu’s trip. Sowore suggested the situation might be orchestrated to create a sympathetic narrative around the new jet’s launch.
