The fire broke out around 12:40 pm on Sunday, prompting intervention from the Yobe State Fire Service to extinguish the flames.
Despite eyewitness confirmation and the firefighting efforts, the cause of the incident remains unknown, and an official statement from the coordination office is yet to be released.
In a separate development, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on World Bank President, Mr. Ajay Banga, to conduct a thorough, transparent, and effective investigation into the spending of loans and facilities by Nigeria’s 36 state governors.
SERAP urged the World Bank to suspend any loans and funding if credible evidence of mismanagement or diversion of public funds is found.
The organization further requested the suspension of loan applications and funding to the states until satisfactory explanations regarding the utilization of funds obtained from the Bank and its partners are provided.
The concerns raised by SERAP are linked to allegations of public fund mismanagement in many of the country’s states, including loans from the World Bank and its partners, as well as federal government allocations.
SERAP emphasized the need for the World Bank and its partners to address credible allegations before continuing financial support to states facing such concerns.
