In a statement released on Monday, Force Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that the suspect, identified as Victor Benjamin Fejemirokun, was handed over to Nigerian authorities in Accra, Ghana, following a coordinated multi-agency operation facilitated by INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau (NCB).
Fejemirokun reportedly fled Nigeria after the disappearance and suspected murder of the FRSC officer and her daughter.
Naija News previously reported that the Ogun State Police Command had declared Superintendent Route Commander Funmilayo Oluwamayokun and her teenage daughter, Sewa Lasisi, missing after they vanished from their Abeokuta home. They were last seen on Sunday, November 2, and all attempts to reach them failed as their mobile phones remained switched off.
Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola stated that the officer and her daughter left their residence at Obasanjo Hilltop Estate, Oke-Mosan, without informing anyone of their destination, prompting an intensive search effort.
According to Hundeyin, credible intelligence led the Ghana Police Service to discover Fejemirokun hiding within their jurisdiction. He was promptly arrested, after which Nigerian authorities were notified.
“The Nigeria Police Force, through INTERPOL NCB Abuja, has taken full custody of fugitive suspect Victor Benjamin Fejemirokun,” the statement said. “The suspect was handed over by the Ghana Police Service following a coordinated multi-agency operation.”
He added that Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has assured the public of a thorough investigation that will be taken to its logical conclusion before the suspect is arraigned. The IGP also commended the Ghana Police Service for their cooperation and professionalism.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the lives of Nigerians, pursuing offenders across borders, and strengthening international partnerships to combat transnational crime.
