Fayose Explodes: ‘I Wanted To Smash The Mic On Obasanjo’s Head — He Has Dementia
Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has revealed that he never intended to invite former President Olusegun Obasanjo to his 65th birthday, contrary to popular belief that Obasanjo’s presence marked the end of their longstanding feud.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In an interview with AF24NEWS, Fayose dismissed claims that he sought Obasanjo’s forgiveness, explaining that he only reached out as a courtesy to commemorate his milestone birthday. He said he was unaware that Obasanjo would publicly declare, “You have asked for forgiveness, and as far as I’m concerned, you are forgiven. But the right lessons must be learnt,” and admitted he was taken aback by the statement.
Two weeks before his birthday, Fayose made a deliberate decision to invite people he had previously fallen out with. “I wrote many names, some we don’t talk again, some I don’t even have their numbers. In Obasanjo’s case, I didn’t have his number,” he said. He told all invitees: “I am 65. Whatever differences we have had, let’s put them behind us. Life is too short.”
Fayose obtained Obasanjo’s contact through a mutual friend, Osita, and insisted he never called to apologise. “I did not offend him. He was the one who removed me from office and declared a state of emergency in Ekiti,” he said, adding that he reached out out of respect. “When you call an elderly man, if you want peace, you go beyond your rights.”
On his response, Fayose said Obasanjo initially reacted teasingly, asking, “Who is that?” and later told him he did not need anyone to contact him on Fayose’s behalf. Fayose maintained that his invitation was in good faith and not for political validation. “At 87, Obasanjo’s views should not define anyone’s political future,” he added.
Fayose recalled how Obasanjo requested to speak last at his event and even suggested how the Vice President should handle the program. He recounted feeling frustrated but restrained himself in the presence of dignitaries. He also described moments where Obasanjo disparaged him publicly, including questioning his and his family’s character.
He further alleged that Obasanjo accepted money he sent for the birthday function and yet disparaged him. Fayose said, “You can’t be disparaging people and taking their money. That’s 419.” He confirmed he has now received back the $20,000 he sent.
Despite the encounter, Fayose insisted there would be no reconciliation. “No, please. That’s the end. Obasanjo removed me from office and others. By God’s grace, I have forgiven him, but I will never repeat the same mistake again.”
He also described Obasanjo as showing signs of dementia, noting that the elder statesman’s behavior during the event reinforced this view.
