Ahmad pointed out that when Buhari assumed office in 2015, Boko Haram controlled 17 local government areas in Borno State, underscoring the gravity of the insurgency at the time. He highlighted that large parts of Borno, along with areas in Adamawa and Yobe States, were inaccessible due to terrorist activities.
“It’s amusing to read Senator Ndume’s claims, as reported by Daily Trust, crediting Jonathan for defeating Boko Haram,” Ahmad said. “History may be rewritten in Nigeria, but this one is hard to change. When Buhari took office, Boko Haram had full control over 17 local government areas in Borno.
“Key infrastructure such as airports, schools, hospitals, and government facilities were closed. By the time President Buhari left office in 2023, Boko Haram had been largely defeated and was technically no longer a major threat.
