Bukky Wright Reveals Why She Walked Away From Nollywood
Veteran Nigerian actress Bukky Wright has opened up about her return to Nollywood after spending nearly two decades away from the industry.
In an interview with Morayo Afolabi, the actress explained that her decision to step away from acting was largely driven by motherhood, adding that she has never regretted putting her career on hold to focus on her children.
Wright made her comeback with The Return of Omotara Johnson, a sequel to the movie that helped establish her as one of Nollywood’s respected actresses.
According to her, the decision to revive the popular character was largely influenced by persistent demands from fans who wanted to see Omotara Johnson return to the screen.
“The fans asked for it,” Wright said.
She noted that the new production has received an encouraging response, with audiences turning out to watch the film and expressing excitement over her return to acting.
Why Wright Kept Comeback Private
Wright also revealed that she deliberately kept her return to Nigeria and Nollywood away from the public.
She said even some people within the entertainment industry were unaware that she had returned or was working on a new project.
According to the actress, years of experience taught her the importance of keeping major plans private until they are ready to be unveiled.
“I’ve learned that what you keep close to your heart manifests much better,” she said.
‘Mama Duty Called’
Reflecting on her lengthy absence from Nollywood, Wright said motherhood was the major reason she relocated abroad and stepped away from the industry.
She explained that her decision was primarily motivated by her desire to be present for her young sons and provide them with the care, attention and guidance she believed they needed.
According to the actress, being available for her children became more important than maintaining her position in the entertainment industry at the time.
“Mama duty called,” Wright said.
She explained that she was unwilling to raise her young children without their mother’s daily presence, prompting her to put her acting career on hold.
After years away from the Nigerian film industry, Wright has now returned to the screen, with The Return of Omotara Johnson marking a new chapter in her acting career.
