Buratai Breaks Silence: Former Army Chief Rejects Sh*cking Terror Financing Allegations
Former Chief of Army Staff and immediate past Ambassador to the Benin Republic, Lt. General Tukur Buratai (rtd), has firmly rejected allegations linking him to terrorism financing, calling the claims baseless and completely at odds with his record of service.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Buratai’s response was issued on Saturday in a statement signed by former Army spokesperson, Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman (rtd). The release was prompted by a controversial online report that listed several high-profile Nigerians, including Buratai, as allegedly connected to terrorism funding networks.
Describing the accusation as “false, unfounded and malicious,” the statement branded the report as a deliberate attempt to smear Buratai’s image. It stressed that throughout his illustrious four-decade military career, he had never been questioned, investigated, or linked to any terrorism-related matter by any lawful authority.
“At no time has he been interrogated, indicted, or associated with such allegations by any security agency, intelligence organisation, judicial body, or diplomatic institution,” the statement emphasized.
Buratai dismissed the speculation as nothing more than unverified personal claims by Major General Danjuma Ali-Keffi (rtd), insisting that the publication lacked factual credibility and legal footing. The statement also accused Sahara Reporters of consistently trying to tarnish Buratai’s reputation over the years without success.
It highlighted Buratai’s central role in Nigeria’s fight against insurgency, noting that under his leadership the Army reclaimed territories from Boko Haram and ISWAP, restored civilian governance, and aided the return of displaced citizens.
“It is illogical and unethical to suggest that the same individual who dedicated his career to defeating terrorism would be involved with those he fought against,” the statement added.
Buratai’s legal representatives have demanded an immediate retraction and a public apology from Sahara Reporters and Ali-Keffi. Failure to comply, the statement warned, will result in legal action to safeguard his integrity and seek appropriate redress.
