Burna Boy Reveals Secret Group Chat With Vinícius, Jaylen Brown, Teases Nigeria Visit
Nigerian Afrobeats star Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has hinted that Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior and NBA star Jaylen Brown could soon visit Nigeria following discussions in a private group chat.
Burna Boy made the revelation in a recent interview with ESPN UK, where he disclosed that he, Vinícius and Brown are members of a group chat known as “Seven.
The singer was asked about his relationship with the two sports stars and confirmed that the Jaylen Brown in the group is indeed the NBA player.
“Now we have a 7 team. It’s me, Vini, and I don’t know if you know Jaylen Brown,” Burna Boy said.
When asked if he was referring to the Boston Celtics star, he replied, “Yeah, that’s our Seven group chat.”
According to the singer, one of their recent discussions focused on bringing the sports stars to Nigeria.
“It’s a lot of things. The last conversation we had is bringing all of them to Nigeria,” he revealed.
Burna Boy’s Football Academy
During the interview, Burna Boy also spoke about his football academy in Nigeria and explained what inspired him to establish it.
He said the idea came after watching a documentary about community football in Jamaica, which motivated him to invest in developing young football talents.
“So I just started throwing my money at it,” the singer said.
Burna Boy expressed his ambition for players from his academy to progress to some of the biggest clubs in world football, including Manchester United.
Burna Boy Talks About Pogba, Kane
The Grammy-winning artiste also discussed his connections with several prominent footballers, including former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba and England captain Harry Kane.
According to Burna Boy, he first met Pogba at his 30th birthday celebration in the United States after the former France international surprised him with a visit to his home.
He also recounted how he met Kane while attending his uncle’s birthday dinner.
“We just ran into him having dinner. And, yeah, just dragged him to the party,” Burna Boy recalled.
Okocha Is Burna Boy’s Football GOAT
Burna Boy also named former Nigerian international Austin “Jay-Jay” Okocha as his greatest footballer of all time.
The singer said Okocha has not received the level of recognition he deserves for his contribution and influence in football.
“Obviously, Jay-Jay Okocha, and I’ll tell you why,” Burna Boy said.
“Because I feel like he hasn’t gotten the flowers that he deserves. You feel me? I feel like his name should be called in the leagues of, like, the legends’ legends.”
He went on to make a bold comparison, saying, “I think you should even call Jay-Jay Okocha’s name before you call Ronaldinho,” while discussing some of football’s greatest legends.
