Charly Boy Breaks Silence On Daughter’s Same-Sex Engagement, Says He Won’t Control Her Life

Veteran Nigerian entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has defended his daughter, Adaeze Oputa, following public reactions to her engagement to a female partner.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Charly Boy addressed the controversy in a post shared on his Instagram page, stressing that Adaeze is 50 years old and should be free to make personal decisions about her life without being controlled by others.

The veteran entertainer explained that, as a father, he could offer advice and express his views, but he did not believe he had the authority to dictate how another adult should live.

Adaeze recently announced her engagement to her female partner on social media, sharing photographs from the occasion and revealing that they had taken the decision to get engaged.

Charly Boy also highlighted that his daughter is a mother of five and a grandmother to a great-grandson, noting that she would remain his daughter regardless of the personal choices she makes.

Reflecting on Adaeze’s previous marriage, he said she went through difficult experiences before leaving the relationship and eventually moving on with her current partner.

He said he could not decide what would make his adult daughter happy, adding that everyone should have the freedom to pursue happiness and live according to their personal convictions.

Charly Boy further recalled that his own father could not prevent him from becoming the person he wanted to be, saying he therefore had no reason to attempt to control his daughter’s life.

He maintained that love and happiness should remain central to family relationships, while wishing his daughter and others the freedom to find fulfillment in their lives.
