Church Scandal: Sarah Martins Reveals Dark Side Of Top Pastors That Forced Her Out

Nollywood actress Sarah Martins has opened up about why she no longer attends church services, despite identifying as a Christian.

According to her, she was once deeply involved in church activities but eventually realised that simply attending services does not guarantee God’s favour. She said the turning point came after encountering pastors in nearly every congregation she joined who made unwanted romantic advances toward her.

This, she explained, pushed her to focus instead on cultivating a direct, personal relationship with God—one grounded in faithfulness and actions she believes honour Him.

Martins noted that she now practises her faith through charitable works and private worship, which she believes has strengthened her spiritual life and brought her numerous answered prayers.

“I’m not an atheist—I’m a Christian,” she said. “I used to be very active in church, but I came to understand that what truly matters is what you do in private, not just showing up for services. Sadly, in every church I attended, pastors made advances toward me, so I stepped away. I promised God to remain faithful and live in ways that please Him. Since then, my prayers have been answered, and I now worship through charity and personal devotion.”
