Governor Abiodun Breaks Silence: Why Gbenga Daniel’s Properties Face Demolition
The Ogun State Government has clarified its reasons for planning to demolish certain properties belonging to Senator Gbenga Daniel, who represents Ogun East, dismissing suggestions that Governor Dapo Abiodun is personally targeting him.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Daniel, in a statement on Saturday, alleged that Governor Abiodun had ordered the demolition of his private residence in Sagamu, The Asoludero Court, as well as Conference Hotels Limited and its annexe.
According to his media aide, Steve Oliyide, the directive came through contravention, quit, and demolition notices pasted on the properties around 4 p.m. on Friday, August 8, giving him only three days to comply. The notices referenced provisions of the 2022 Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning Law as the legal basis for the planned action.
Daniel rejected the alleged violations as “laughable” and labelled the move “political vindictiveness at its most shameful level.”
In response, Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to Governor Abiodun, described the accusations of “political persecution” as “false” and intended to stir disaffection in the state. He explained that the action was part of an ongoing urban renewal and development audit in the government reservation areas (GRAs) of Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode. The audit, he said, affects residential, educational, healthcare, and commercial properties, and aims to verify building permits and compliance with planning regulations.
Akinmade noted that Daniel’s property falls within the Sagamu GRA and was served notices alongside many others, in line with the state’s planning laws—laws that have been in place since Daniel’s own tenure as governor.
He urged all affected property owners to present their building permits and land titles for verification, accusing Daniel of “crying wolf” and resorting to “cheap blackmail” rather than complying with legal requirements.
“Nobody is above the law,” Akinmade stressed. “If anyone is after Senator Gbenga Daniel, it is certainly not the governor of Ogun State.”
