Cleric Gumi Explains Strategy For Locating Bandit HideoutsControversial Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has stated that bandits can be located in a similar manner to how individuals seek out people they wish to meet. Gumi explained that when people approach bandits as either negotiators or preachers, the bandits tend to be receptive, opening up avenues for dialogue. He argued that this method could help in persuading them to abandon their criminal ways.

Gumi said, ā€œIt’s unintelligent to dismiss this approach. For example, if you’re in Lagos or Ogun State and you want to meet someone, do you question how you find them? These bandits are Nigerians; we can trace them through their relatives. When approached as a negotiator or preacher, they often open their hearts, making dialogue possible.

He questioned why the government has not fully adopted this approach, suggesting that while the current administration may have learned from past experiences, too much talk and little action is hampering results.
