Coalition Breaks Silence: Why ADC Is The Chosen Vehicle For 2027 Political Revolution
Bolaji Abdullahi, a former Minister of Sports and now the spokesperson for the 2027 opposition coalition, has revealed why the group selected the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform ahead of the next general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Abdullahi, the coalition was in search of a political party that could be reshaped to align with its vision for reform—and the ADC turned out to be the most suitable choice.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, Abdullahi said that although several options were on the table, the ADC offered a rare opportunity for reinvention and was accepted by all coalition members despite its imperfections.
“We had specific parameters and conditions in mind for the kind of party we wanted,” he said. “Many of us felt disillusioned with our former parties. Those from the APC said the founding ideals had been abandoned. Those from the PDP believed the party had lost its direction, and some Labour Party members voiced regret over their past affiliations. So, we all agreed that going forward, we needed a political platform grounded in shared principles.”
He stressed that whichever party the coalition chose must be open to structural reforms that reflect its vision. The ADC, he noted, fit that requirement.
“We found a party flexible enough to be moulded to our purpose. If you say it’s weak like clay—yes, but that also means it can be shaped into something strong and purposeful. That’s exactly why we chose it.”
“This Coalition Belongs to No One”
Abdullahi emphasized that the coalition was not built to promote the ambitions of any one individual but to serve the collective interests of Nigerians.
“This is not anyone’s personal coalition,” he declared. “David Mark is participating not as a proxy for Atiku or anyone else—he’s simply part of the coalition. He was chosen as interim national chairman because he commands widespread respect. We’ve tried the ‘big-man party’ model before—it failed.”
He also addressed critics who claimed the coalition was hastily formed, stating that it had been in development for over 18 months.
“This coalition didn’t just spring up overnight. It’s been carefully planned. Now that it’s public, we see people emerging from nowhere with criticism. Where were they during all those months of groundwork?”
