The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), has alleged that top figures in the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are attempting to exploit Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), without any sincere intention of offering him the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking on Wednesday, June 2, 2025, Keyamo warned that the coalition risks losing Obi’s support base if they do not present him as their presidential flagbearer.

Keyamo emphasized that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remains unaffected by the developments in the opposition camp, pointing out that while the APC has grown stronger since the 2023 elections, the opposition has become increasingly fractured.

“The individual being deceived here by these experienced political tacticians is Peter Obi. They want his supporters and popularity but are unwilling to hand him the ticket, because, at the core, this coalition is all about Atiku,” Keyamo said.

“Denying Obi the ticket would mean losing the very base that brought him success in 2023. How do you justify making someone who won two geopolitical zones—the South-East and South-South—a running mate to someone who only managed to secure one—the North-East?”

According to him, while the PDP and Labour Party may end up weakened, and the ADC merely gains token attention, the APC remains unshaken and intact.

He continued, “Since the last election, APC has only consolidated its strength. The opposition, on the other hand, has splintered. Let them continue with their political alignment; for us, governance is the focus.”

Keyamo described the defection of major opposition elements to the ADC as inadvertently fortifying the APC’s chances in 2027, and questioned the constitutionality of operating across party lines.

“By aligning openly with the ADC, these individuals have effectively abandoned their original parties. The law doesn’t allow dual party membership, and this kind of cross-affiliation could be grounds for disqualification,” he argued.

He further claimed that what the public sees as a “coalition” is essentially a faction of the PDP, led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is allegedly desperate to secure the 2027 ticket.

“Most of these so-called coalition members are just displaced PDP veterans. They’ve lost grip on the party and are now rallying around Atiku under the guise of a new movement. It’s all about 2027—nothing more.”

Keyamo dismissed any threat the coalition might pose to the ruling party, pointing out that some of those joining the movement are disgruntled APC members or individuals who performed poorly in the 2023 elections.

“Their defection is actually beneficial to the APC. It’s like removing a parasite that had been silently weakening the system from within,” he concluded.
