Committee Reports Recovery Of 70 Vehicles Linked To Tambuwal’s Former Appointees

The Sokoto State government has revealed that out of the 745 vehicles reportedly in possession of former government officials, 70 have been successfully recovered. According to Kalgo, the committee identified a total of 745 vehicles, with 302 held by former Commissioners, Special Advisers, and Chief Executives, and 443 in the possession of local government areas. The committee has managed to retrieve 32 vehicles from former government officials, including Commissioners, Special Advisers, and Chief Executives of various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

During their inspection of all 23 local government areas, the committee discovered that 70 percent of the 443 vehicles were in a state of disrepair. Furthermore, approximately 40 vehicles were reportedly leased to private individuals, including 6 graders, 6 pay loaders, 3 rollers, 9 tippers, 4 water tankers, 2 fire service tankers, among others.

Jelani Kalgo stated that the committee engaged all stakeholders, such as local government chairmen, works supervisors, and beneficiaries, resulting in the recovery of 35 heavy-duty vehicles. Additionally, some vehicles were found concealed in five locations within the state metropolis.

However, Kalgo acknowledged that the recovery efforts faced challenges due to a shortage of funds and the absence of a court order. He highlighted a concerning instance where a government property was sold for N60 million, but only N30 million was properly accounted for.

Governor Aliyu expressed gratitude to the committee for its diligent work and assured them that the government would carefully study the report and take necessary actions in response to their findings.
