Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, the NFF General Secretary, stated that, according to the federation’s records, there is no evidence of any outstanding debt to Chukwu. This statement comes in response to reports that the NFF owed him up to $128,000 following his death.

Sanusi explained, “There is no record of any financial obligation to ‘Chairman’ Christian Chukwu in our files. During the first term of the Board under Mr. Amaju Pinnick, a committee was set up to thoroughly review the records of coaches with outstanding payments, even from previous NFF administrations. The committee was tasked with ensuring that any debts owed to coaches were promptly paid. I am aware that ‘Chairman’ Chukwu worked with the NFF between 2002 and 2005, but he was relieved of his post following a FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Angola in Kano in August 2005. There are no records of any debt to him.”

Sanusi further challenged anyone possessing proof of any owed amounts to Chukwu or other coaches to present the evidence. He added, “If any legitimate documentation of such indebtedness comes forward, we will settle the debt immediately. As a responsible organization, we are committed to fulfilling our obligations.”
